The Wolves run various Talent Identification initiatives throughout the year. We have formal and informal ways of identifying talented young players within our community.

The following are suitable competitions and programs for athletes to be identified:

  • Junior Domestic Competition: WBA WABL Coaches and WBA Staff often watch our Domestic Competition and are always on the lookout for up and coming players.
  • Domestic Development Program: The WBA uses this program to identify potential WABL players from our Domestic Competition.
  • Domestic Shooting Camps: Another opportunity for WBA Coaches to witness Domestic talent.
  • Combine Days: The WBA run Combine Days to assist us in finding players with the attributes to become great players.

The most important opportunity for Talent Identification is our WABL Trials.
In previous years, we have had 800-900 athletes try out for our WABL teams across multiple sessions. WABL Trials are where up to 60 accredited coaches will view multiple courts and make notes on the strengths and weaknesses of players on the WABL radar.

The High Performance Staff of the WBA keep a depth chart and player profile on every WABL player in our association. This is used to help our coaches identify both strengths and weaknesses of players in our system and to promote those we feel are ready on the pathway to BWA State programs.
