Double success for Wolves

Comments:

IT was a double win for the Wolves in the first week of the WSBL and MSBL play-offs.

The women survived a late Mandurah fight-back to win 68-61 at home, while the men looked the best they had in weeks in a 97-86 win against Willetton away.

It was a shared effort from Ben Ettridge’s troops, with four players shooting in double figures. Matt Schmechtig starred with a tough, all-round effort that netted him 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Captain Greg Hire led from the front with a standard issue double double of 20 points and 19 rebounds.

Craig Friday’s women beat the Magic in all major statistics but almost let the game slip when they were outscored by eight points in the last period.

But veteran Sue Williams’ 400-game SBL experience came to the fore as she steered home her team and finished with 18 points for the game.
