<item><title>Dowdell Signs with North West Tasmania Thunder </title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/dowdell_signs_with_north_west_tasmania_thunder_/80</link>
<description>
&#38;ldquo;Thunder&#38;rsquo;s first import to add some height&#38;rdquo;

The Imports have started rolling in for the North West Tasmania Thunder. The first is Townsville Crocodiles Jeff Dowdell. The 205cm, 22 year old forward will finish his season with Townsville in the NBL before he comes to join the Thunder.

Thunder coach Phil Thomas said Dowdell would play mainly the four spot instead of a three-four cross like he did with Townsville because his side needed the height.

Thomas said Dowdell&#38;rsquo;s previous experience and success in the SEABL was an important factor.&#38;nbsp; &#38;ldquo;It&#38;rsquo;s a very different league, much closer and more physical &#38;hellip;. there won&#38;rsquo;t be a transition period&#38;rdquo;.&#38;nbsp; Dowdell will come match-fit and ready to complement the Thunder&#38;rsquo;s powerful back court.

&#38;ldquo;The advantage is he&#38;rsquo;s not an unknown, as American imports are&#38;rdquo;, he said.&#38;nbsp; He could be a fortnight away if the Crocs bomb out of finals contention but it is more likely to be the end of the month as the team looks to make the play-offs at least.

Dowdell was an AIS basketball scholarship holder before he played in the SEABL for Albury, where he averaged 24.8 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. He also played for the Perth Wildcats and picked up their most improved player gong before starting with the Crocodiles this season.

Despite his young age, Dowdell is an experience basketballer who will provide the height the Thunder needs.

Thomas said Michael Rowlands had been coming along well the last couple of weeks and would add a strong inside presence for the team, but securing Dowdell made the club&#38;rsquo;s planning easier.&#38;nbsp; He said he was also working on another recruit or two.

<item><title>Wolves Finalise Exciting Aussie Guard Rotation for 2010</title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/wolves_finalise_exciting_aussie_guard_rotation_for_2010/79</link>
<description>
The Titan Interactive Wolves are pleased to announce that they have signed the final pieces of an impressive Aussie guard rotation for the 2010 season and beyond. &#38;ldquo;We have always been focused on establishing a strong local contingent in our SBL teams &#38;ndash; where our junior Wolves can clearly identify with the strong development path that is available to them&#38;rdquo; said Wanneroo Basketball Association President Ryan Hunter. &#38;ldquo;To be able to do this, it is important to unleash exciting Wolves juniors into the program, retain our club stalwarts and recruit impressive WA based players who show a commitment to the development of junior basketball and understand the importance of the Wolves culture&#38;rdquo;.

Joining club stalwarts Tony Pearman and Doug Gates and exciting juniors Reece Maxwell and Rhys Smyth are new recruits Seb Salinas and Reece Langford. Seb and Reece both join the Wolves after progressing from the Stirling Senators junior program through to the Senators SBL program.

Phil Doherty, head coach of the Titan Interactive Wolves made it a priority in the offseason to recruit Seb and Reece to the program. &#38;ldquo;I am excited about the quality and depth of our guards for the upcoming season and can&#38;rsquo;t wait to see these guys develop and reach their full potential over the coming years&#38;rdquo;, Phil said. &#38;ldquo;Seb is a player that I never thought would be available for the Wolves program. Seb shows all of the characteristics that the Wolves embody and he has already fit right into the group with his high work ethic and commitment to developing juniors&#38;rdquo;.

&#38;ldquo;Reece is also an exciting prospect for the Wolves. In the early stages of the preseason, Reece was able to show us what he is capable of, and we are excited to see the three Reece&#38;rsquo;s (Reece, Reece and Rhys) develop into a solid guard rotation that can be at the club for a long time. All three possess on court smarts, are remarkably quick and compliment each others games&#38;rdquo; Coach Doherty said.

&#38;ldquo;Now with a solid guard rotation that will take us into the next phase of the Wolfpack&#38;rsquo;s SBL program, we can look to find and develop the next Wolves big man. The Wolves have had great success in previous years, with Damian Matacz and Alex Loughton both Wolves juniors. I am excited that our next job is to find the next Damo or Big Al that is going to join our talented young team on an exciting journey over the coming years.&#38;rdquo; Hunter said, reflecting on the signing of Seb and Reece.

Be on the lookout for further announcements about the finalisation of the Wolves lineup for season 2010.

<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/wolves_sign_first_players_for_2010/73</link>
<description>
The Titan Interactive Wolves are pleased to announce that they have started the process of signing the Mens squad for 2010.&#38;nbsp; A clear priority during the offseason has been to retain local talent, and as such the coaching staff are very pleased to announce that veterans Tony Pearman and Doug Gates will be returning.&#38;nbsp;

&#38;quot;2010 will be a year that will see the Wolves unleash a youthful, vibrant team onto the league, and as such it was critical that we resigned some veteran players to help guide these junior players coming through.&#38;nbsp; As such I am pleased that we have been able to resign club stalwarts Tony and Doug, and will be able to resign some others in the coming weeks&#38;quot; said recently appointed head coach Phil Doherty.

In addition to these signings Reece Maxwell and Rhys Smyth, both of whom are Wolves juniors, have also signed on for Season 2010.&#38;nbsp; Maxwell is one of the most dynamic and athletic guards in the league and will flourish under the guidance of Coach Doherty next season, whilst Smyth is expected to improve on his solid rookie year and further develop within the impressive guard rotation that the Wolves will have in 2010.&#38;nbsp;

Be on the look out for some further signings in the coming weeks...

<description>
Titan Interactive Wolves Announce Two More Signings for 2010

The Titan Interactive Wolves are pleased to announce two more signings for Season 2010.&#38;nbsp;Recently appointed head coach, Phil Doherty, has been&#38;nbsp;hard at work behind the scenes putting the pieces together to&#38;nbsp;achieve success&#38;nbsp;over the next&#38;nbsp;few years.&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;The first signing&#38;nbsp;for the&#38;nbsp;wolfpack is a&#38;nbsp;new assistant coach - Mark Shipley.

Mark&#38;nbsp;is what you would call a &#38;quot;basketball junkie&#38;quot;,&#38;nbsp;someone who is a student of the game and has been involved around the league for a number of&#38;nbsp;years.&#38;nbsp; Being a school teacher and having previous&#38;nbsp;assistant coaching experience in the British Basketball League, Mark is going to be able to provide&#38;nbsp;a lot of&#38;nbsp;value to the wolfpack throughout the year, and will complement the&#38;nbsp;coaching staff&#38;nbsp;that will be in place for next season.&#38;nbsp;

The Wanneroo Basketball Association is pleased that Mark has been able to join the wolfpack, with his values and experience being well aligned to our focus of working with quality people who are passionate about the game.&#38;nbsp; As with recent years, the coaching staff will consist of&#38;nbsp;three to&#38;nbsp;four coaches to ensure that the program is&#38;nbsp;effectively resourced to enable a strong link between the SBL and the up and coming junior talent that exists within the wolfpack.

Phil and Mark&#38;nbsp;have already commenced pre-season&#38;nbsp;training, and are excited to be able to&#38;nbsp;announce some major re-signings and recruitment coups.&#38;nbsp; Be on the lookout for&#38;nbsp;some of these news&#38;nbsp;releases over the coming weeks.

<item><title>Recognition for Wolves Faithful</title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/recognition_for_wolves_faithful/66</link>
<description>
Those in attendance at the&#38;nbsp;Wolves Annual SBL Awards Evening, witnessed the presentation of a very special award for the Wanneroo Basketball Association.

&#38;nbsp;As most Australian sporting clubs would be aware, the attraction and retention of quality volunteers is a very hard task.&#38;nbsp; It is even harder to find volunteers who &#38;#39;bleed the colours&#38;#39; of the club and truly make a difference to all of those who participate in the clubs activities.&#38;nbsp; The Wanneroo Basketball Association has established a new prestigious award, which is second only to life membership of the Association, which recognises the outstanding contributions of these members.

&#38;nbsp;The John Hayter Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Wanneroo Basketball Association

&#38;nbsp;It is definitely fitting to name this award after John, a Life Member of the Wanneroo Basketball Association.&#38;nbsp; John was involved in so many things that our members take for granted within the Association.&#38;nbsp; The Stats bench - he built it.&#38;nbsp; The floors - every year he resurfaced them.&#38;nbsp; Marketing - he did it.&#38;nbsp; Maintenance - he did it.&#38;nbsp; There was never any job too big or too small.

Sadly John passed away earlier this year.&#38;nbsp; John joined the Board as a member of the Greenwood Basketball Club. He coached many junior teams with Greenwood and then joined the Wanneroo Board over 12 years ago. John also coached for many years a ladies Giants team up until recently. He was awarded Life Membership with Wanneroo Basketball Association in 2006. John spent countless hours of his own time helping the Association. His dedication, support and willingness to help out in any situation will always be remembered and he will be sadly missed.

&#38;nbsp;The inaugural recipient of this award is Andrew Doe.&#38;nbsp; Andrew&#38;#39;s impact on the Wanneroo Basketball Association and its success has been significant in recent years.&#38;nbsp; A few years back Andrew became President of the Padbury Pumas - at a time when they had around 7 domestic teams.&#38;nbsp; Through some hard work and attraction of good quality help, the Pumas are now teh largest club within the Wanneroo Basketball Association boasting over 40 teams.&#38;nbsp; Andrew has also been involved with many other important projects for the Wolves, including a number of maintenance projects such as the resurfacing of the concrete surrounds that were in desperate need of attention.&#38;nbsp; A club cannot operate without the commitment and support of such individuals.&#38;nbsp; But most importantly is Andrews recent efforts with the Under 10&#38;#39;s free basketball initiative that has been launched by the Wolves.&#38;nbsp; This program is critical to the future success of the WBA and Andrew was tireless in his creation of coaching programs, support to get the project launched and of course leading each session on court.&#38;nbsp; As you can see, Andrew is a deserving recipient of this inaugural award.

This award should remind all members of the values that the club and that there are many tireless committed volunteers working behind the scenes - just as John did.&#38;nbsp; Without this commitment the Wolves would not be as strong as they are today.&#38;nbsp;

The WBA is always grateful to those who uncover these hidden gems - just as Kerry Matthews did when she convinved John to come down and get involved with the Wolves after he had moved the family to Perth.&#38;nbsp; We look forward to this award proving to be rewarding recognition for those who support the Wolves and congratulate Andrew Doe on being the inaugaral recipient of the John Hayter Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Wanneroo Basketball Association!

<item><title>Wolves expand the trophy cabinet in September</title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/wolves_expand_the_trophy_cabinet_in_september/65</link>
<description>The Wanneroo Basketball Association has completed a very successful month, receiving a number of individual, team and Association based recognitions in the past month. The successful month commenced at the annual Basketball WA Awards evening. &#38;nbsp;The first award for the evening was the WABL Female Player of the Year &#38;ndash; which was awarded to Amy Kidner.&#38;nbsp; Amy, daughter of senior Wolves and WA U/20&#38;rsquo;s coach Brad Kidner was a well deserving recipient of the award which complements her impressive basketball resume which includes captaining the Wolves u14 touring team in 2007, the 2009 Most Improved Athlete in the National Intensive Training Program and captaining WA Metro at the 2010 U16 Nationals where she led the tournament in rebounding and went top ten for points scored, steals and free throws.

The second award was for Personality of the year &#38;ndash; which was awarded to Paul Slattery.&#38;nbsp; Paul has been the long time &#38;ldquo;silky smooth&#38;rdquo; voice of the Wolves, and it is well deserved recognition.&#38;nbsp; Paul&#38;rsquo;s professional approach, insightful comments and also his ability to sing the national anthem when encountered with technical difficulties truly position him as one of the best court announcers in the league.&#38;nbsp; Congratulations Paul.

The final award of the night was the announcement that the Wanneroo Basketball Association had retained the Gillam Trophy &#38;ndash; for the most successful Association in Western Australia &#38;ndash; for the 3rd consecutive year.&#38;nbsp; This was the second year in a row that the Trophy had been awarded to the Wolves prior to the end of the WABL season.&#38;nbsp; This is a remarkable achievement and is a reflection of the Wolves dominance in recent years.&#38;nbsp; In the 14 WABL divisions, the Wolves won nearly 80% of games played, had 12 teams who finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall at the end of the regular season and qualified 7 teams through to the Grand Final.&#38;nbsp;

The next round of awards occurred at the WABL Grand Final Day &#38;ndash; with four Wolves teams winning their respective divisions.&#38;nbsp; Congratulations to the Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Girls and Under 18 Division 1 Men.&#38;nbsp; Three championships out of fourteen teams is a fantastic achievement!&#38;nbsp; Congratulations should also go to Ben Murphy (U18 Div 1 men) and Ashleigh Cole (U18 Women) who were recognised as the Most Valuable Player of their respective divisions.&#38;nbsp; Recognition also needs to be made of the following All-Star Team selections:&#38;nbsp; Chelsea Belcher and Kaitlin King (U13 Women), Kane Trenouth and Nick Zivanovic (U14 Men), Savannah Bafford (U14 Women), Madisen Scott (U15 Women), Amy Kidner (U16 Women), James Anthony (U18Div2 Men), Clint Matthews (U23 Men) and Reece Maxwell (Open Men).&#38;nbsp; The team and individual performances for the Wolves have been outstanding in 2009, and we look forward to even more success in 2010.

Remember that try-outs for 2010 occur in late October.&#38;nbsp; If you would like more information please contact Van Kailis at the Wolves office on 9300 1325.

<item><title>City of Joondalup Wolves Lose a Thriller</title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/city_of_joondalup_wolves_lose_a_thriller/27</link>
<description>The City of Joondalup Wolves opened their Womens State Basketball Season with a tough game against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday Night.&#38;nbsp; Whilst it was the Wolves first game for the season, the Suns had played an impressive game the previous night &#38;ndash; beating the Lakeside Lightning 68-39.

The Wolves started the game with a strong first quarter that saw them attack the basket aggressively.&#38;nbsp; Had more of the Wolves opportunities been capitalised on, they would have had a very healthy lead at the first break.&#38;nbsp; The Suns were able to hang around however, and the game was close at the half.

The Suns pulled away later in the game, but as with the Mens squad, the wolfpack were not prepared to lie down and fought back to provide a nail-biting finish to the game.&#38;nbsp; There were many opportunities for both teams to win the game, and some pressure free throws to be taken.&#38;nbsp; At the final buzzer however it was the Suns who had their noses in front &#38;ndash; 59-58.

For the Suns Sam Norwood was tough inside the paint all night, and finished with 15 points.&#38;nbsp; For the Wolves, Meghan D&#38;rsquo;Arcy played an provided some inspirational hustle with a 11 point/4 assist game, and Whitney Perret put in a solid captains performance of 9 points, 8 board and 5 assists.

After the gut-wrenching result the girls had the Sunday bye and play their next game on Saturday away against the Australian Central Eagles.

<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/wolves_claim_gillam_trophy/13</link>
<description>
The Wanneroo Wolves Basketball Association has once again been recognised as the most successful basketball club in Western Australia.

The Wolves&#38;#39; have backed up 2007&#38;#39;s close fought win with an even stronger performance in 2008, which has culminated in the Association being awarded the prestigious Gillam Trophy for a second successive year!

The trophy, for &#38;quot;Excellence In The Western Australian Basketball League&#38;quot; is awarded to the club that achieves the most number of wins during the regular season, as well as the four weeks of Finals.

Once again Wanneroo Wolves Basketball Association President Ryan Hunter was clearly pleased with the performance of the club. &#38;quot;We are all delighted with the success we have achieved, and winning the Gillam Trophy for a second year is just reward for all the hard work put in by our players, coaches, and support staff&#38;quot;.

It has been a big year for the Wolves, with a solid performance in the WABL competition, the 2nd most successful regular season of any Wolves MSBL team, and signing a new major sponsor - Titan Interactive. Add to this the Male and Female WABL Coach of the year awards for Mark Loxley and Sarah Fasolo, as well as the WABL Male Player of the Year for Ben Murphy, the attraction of Craig Friday to the Wolf Pack, many state player and coach selections, under 14 nationals qualifications and many many more success stories and it is clear that it has been a very eventful year for the Wolves.

The Wanneroo Basketball Association is looking forward to building on this success in 2009!

<description>
The Wanneroo Basketball Association is pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Eric Watterson and Geoff Armstrong as assistant coaches for the Titan Interactive Wolves 2009 campaign.

Eric Watterson is a well known figure both in and out of basketball circles, having played more than 300 games for the Perth Wildcats between 1984 and 1994. It is pleasing to see Eric wearing green again, after previously coaching the Wolves SBL team in the late 90&#38;#39;s and being a board member of the Wanneroo Basketball Association in the early 00&#38;#39;s.

Geoff Armstrong has been involved with the Wolves program for the past few years, having been head coach of the Wolves under 23&#38;#39;s and Division 1 programs and also an assistant coach to Scott Hood in 2008. Geoff was highly regarded by both players and coaching staff last year and it is great to have him on board again in 2009.

In announcing the signings, WBA President Ryan Hunter indicated that the assistant coaches had the experience and technical expertise that the Wolves had been looking for, and were further evidence of the Wolves objective of attracting quality people to the organisation. &#38;quot;Our coaching staff in both the Mens and Womens SBL programs are now in place, and it is great to have so many proven performers involved. These signings will further ensure that our talented Wolves players are given every opportunity to achieve to their full potential&#38;quot; Ryan said.

<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/wolves_recognise_leadership_qualities_in_up_and_coming_star/9</link>
<description>
The Wanneroo Basketball Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Chelsea Armstrong at Club Captain from the 2009 season. Chelsea joins Damian Matacz in the role of club captain &#38;ndash; which was introduced by the Wolves in late 2007. The role is designed to recognise that the success of the Wolves is only possible with the commitment and loyalty of many valuable members of the Wolf Pack, and that these traits need to be reinforced and displayed to all of our up and coming juniors who one day aspire to represent the Wolves!

Wanneroo Basketball Association Club President, Ryan Hunter, said that he was extremely pleased to announce that Chelsea would be the Wolves Club Captain from 2009.  &#38;ldquo;Whilst Chelsea is only in the early stages of her career, she has been a very passionate member of the Wolf Pack, and one who is always heavily involved in things behind the scenes.  Whether it is club promotion, coaching domestic or WABL teams or even painting walls &#38;ndash; Chelsea is always one of the first to roll up her sleeves and get involved.  Having progressed through the Wolves WABL program, and represented the Wolves at the SBL level and Lynx in the WNBL, Chelsea is in a great position to be a very positive role model for our young members of the Association.  Role models are vital to the success of a quality basketball program &#38;ndash; and we believe that we are onto a winner!&#38;rdquo;

Damian and Chelsea will be present at many Wolves functions throughout the year, and are always happy to chat when you see them at the stadium, so please say Hi next time you see them at Court 1 or in the Wolves Den.

<item><title>New Faces Welcomed to the Wolfpack for the 2009 season</title>
<link>http://www.wolfpackbasketball.com.au/news/general_news/new_faces_welcomed_to_the_wolfpack_for_the_2009_season/8</link>
<description>
We look forward to seeing all Wolves supporters at one of our early home games for the 2009 SBL season. The Wolves have been busy building a solid roster during the offseason and those supporters who do come down to cheer the Wolves on may not be able to recognise some of the new faces that are being welcomed to the Wolfpack in the 2009 season.

The mens squad, known as the Titan Interactive Wolves, have welcomed a number of new faces to the squad this season, including:

	Ryan Benson, who has played a number of previous seasons in the SBL, most recently with the Goldfields Giants and previously the Swan City Mustangs. Ryan brings some much needed size to the roster and can be extremely difficult to defend.
	Scott and Marcus Moore also join the squad for this season, joining the Wolves from Grace College in Indiana, USA. Having played 4 years of college ball, Scott and Marcus will bring some much needed experience to our guard rotation following the loss of Steve Butler &#38;ndash; and no doubt a little bit of excitement too! One interesting fact &#38;ndash; Scott is Men&#38;rsquo;s Basketball NAIA All-Conference 5th All Time in Assists!
	Although he is not a new face, we are also pleased to advise that Jeff Dowdell has again signed on to play for the Wolves &#38;ndash; his 4th season with the club.

With the womens squad, known as the City of Joondalup Wolves, we are also pleased to welcome two new experienced players, as well as a number of Wolves Juniors:

	Allison Ramirez joins the Wolves this season, coming out of a short retirement. Allison has played a number of previous seasons in the SBL and also has WNBL experience. A proven performer known for her athleticism, Allison is sure to be a crowd favourite this season.
	Heidi Rawiller is new to WA this season, having previously played for the Bendigo Lady Braves in the ABA competition in Victoria. A solid point guard with a strong passing ability should complement our scorers and help to free up Sue Williams once she returns from injury.

Finally, there are a number of Wolves juniors who have worked hard during the offseason and earnt their first SBL contracts. We look forward to seeing you on court in the near future.

<description>Titan Interactive Wolves Golf Day &#38;ndash; a.k.a &#38;ldquo;The Wolfpack Open&#38;rdquo; was held on Saturday the 28th February at the Carramar Golf Course.

The purpose of the event was to launch the upcoming SBL season and the day was shared by Titan Interactive Staff and the SBL Men&#38;rsquo;s Squad. In all 28 hackers were paired up and participated in a &#38;ldquo;9 hole&#38;rdquo; 2-ball Ambrose competition. Of the 28 golfers at least 20 were unawares of what competition they were playing in (and the rules) but never the less player&#38;rsquo;s competitive spirit took over and the competition was hotly contested.

The day commenced with a corporate breakfast at the clubhouse where the season was officially launched by Titan Interactive Consultant, and former Championship Winning Wolves player Richard Kvesich, who wished the Wolfpack all the best for the 2009 season and reinforced Titan&#38;rsquo;s on-going support of the club.

Carramar GC then provided all hackers with free golf balls and a few tips to hone their skills on the driving range before venturing out on the course. For most this meant all the bad ones were out of the system&#38;hellip;for most!!!

Titan Interactive Wolves Assistant Coach, basketball legend and Callaway Golf Manager Eric &#38;ldquo;Watto&#38;rdquo; Watterson gave everyone the last commands before play got under way, clearly some players misinterpreted the instructions, especially the scoring component!!!

There were many highlights on the course with Titan Interactive Wolves Assistant Coach Geoff Armstrong narrowly missing a hole in one, Club Captain Damian Matacz erasing hole after hole of poor play to miraculously chip-in off the green on the 8th hole to salvage some respectability for his team and a demonstration of raw power by US point guard Scott Moore, who clearly missed classes at college to spend time on the driving range.

All in all it was a great way to start the season, some of the better performance on the day are mentioned below on the award winners list.
