The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are excited to announce signing of former Centre of Excellence athlete (COE) and NBL1 West Select player Ethan Elliott for the 2024 NBL1 West season.

Ethan joins the Joondalup Wolves as an exceptional talent who has proven himself at both the national and NBL1 level. Early in 2023 Ethan was selected to represent WA for the U20 National Championships held in Geelong, where the men swept the competition 8-0 to win gold. Ethan led the team to gold as the starting point guard, posting averages of 13.6 points, 4 assists and 1.6 steals per game whilst shooting 46% from 3-point range.

Recognised as one of the best young players in the country, Ethan earned a scholarship to Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence in 2022 where he gained valuable experience playing against NBL1 teams across Australia. Ethan was selected for the Wildcats Academy class of 2023 which is a program providing the top 29 players in the state with opportunities in higher levels of competition.

Ethan was highly effective during the 2023 NBL1 West season for the Warwick Senators where he was second in the team for scoring and first in assists averaging 18.5 points and 4 assists per game. Ethan scored 20+ points 8 times during the season with a season high of 30 against the Geraldton Buccaneers.

Ethan also represented the NBL1 West Select Team in a 2-game tournament against the Perth Wildcats. Ethan has accomplished great things at the national and semi-professional level already at only 19 years old. An amazing addition to the Wolfpack, we look forward to seeing Ethan’s continued success throughout the 2024 NBL1 West season.

Men’s Head coach David Morrell had this to say about signing Ethan:

“Ethan is another big splash free agency signing for us. Coming out of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence (COE) program in 2022, in 2023, he was top 10 in the NBL1 West for scoring. He’s ready to prove himself as one of the best point guard prospects in all of Australia. He competes on both ends of the floor and is a great teammate.

He will immediately fit into exactly the sort of team we are looking to build; he injects energy into any environment he enters. That is huge to our team culture, and I expect very big things from Ethan this season and beyond. With his arrival, he instantly raises our expectations as a team. He had a lot of suitors, so we feel very blessed that he has decided that we are the club he wanted to join for 2024.”

Ethan had this to say about signing with the Wolfpack:

“I would like to thank everybody at the Senators, from management, past coaches, the many supporters, and most of all my teammates along the way. I have made life-long friendships in my time there, for that I am ever grateful.

I am super excited about joining the Wolves this year. You can expect us to play an exciting brand of basketball and I am pumped to be a part of such a great group of guys as we strive to bring a championship banner to Wolves fans. It is going to be an awesome experience playing in front of a packed HBF arena with the passionate Wolfpack behind me instead of against me.

For me, a young up-and-coming point guard, it is about continuing to show the impact that I can have, assisting the team at both ends of the floor and continuing to build a playing resume that will assist me in getting to the next level as a professional athlete. In the end, that was what brought me to the Wolves. Coach Morrell proposed a coaching plan and development journey that was too good to refuse, and I am super excited to work with him and the coaching staff as I strive to be the best version of myself possible, both on and off the court. I want to thank David & Andrew for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

Ethan joins teammates Ben Geel, Luca O’Brien, Caleb Davis, Christian Jurlina, CJ Turnage and Jordan Wellsteed for the Joondalup Wolves in the upcoming 2024 NBL1 West season!
